One of the scientific activities of our Center is the development and implementation of the latest technologies for transplantation of hematopoietic and mesenchymal stem cells and the study of the effect of stem cells on the human body in various pathologies, molecular genetic studies in hematology and transplantology.
Stem cell therapy is the future of medicine, this type of therapy is considered one of the most progressive in the world.
Currently, two types of stem cells are used in clinical practice - hematopoietic (hematopoietic) and mesenchymal.
Mesenchymal stem cells are used to treat diseases such as multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, leading to gradual paralysis and atrophy of skeletal muscles.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that is accompanied by the destruction of the myelin sheath of the spinal cord and brain pathways. More than 2 million people in the world suffer from this disease. The Republic of Belarus is at high risk for this disease.
In our country, scientific research on the problem of multiple sclerosis has been successfully carried out for a long time. In 2018 a book was published by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A.S. Fedulova "Cell therapy of multiple sclerosis". This is the result of many years of work on the study and implementation of a new method of treating multiple sclerosis - stem cell therapy.
Nowaday, mesenchymal stem cell therapy is aimed at reducing the rate of development of the disease and improving the quality of life of the patient.
Stem cell transplantation is the only safe and effective treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Over the past year, our center has treated more than 10 patients with this severe and rare disease from around the world.
Mesenchymal autologous stem cells are used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease in patients under 65 years of age with a disease duration of no more than 8 years. The introduction of the cell product helps to slow down the progression of the process, improves the general condition, reduces the level of anxiety and depression in patients.
In practice, cell therapy has proven its effectiveness in the treatment of a wide range of diseases of other organs and systems. Treatment with this method of osteoarthritis of large joints, along with the introduction of hyaluronic acid, significantly facilitates motor activity and significantly reduces pain. Treatment of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), the consequences of an infectious lung injury (covid-19), is a very difficult task. The introduction of MSCs gives patients the possibility of long-term remission and free breathing.
