The department is open since the establishing of City Clinical Hospital No. 9 (now is MSTH) in 1976. The main direction of the department's work has been and remains operations on the abdominal organs, pathology of veins and arteries, herniology, benign tumors of soft tissues
The head of the surgical service, curator of medical and scientific work is Professor of the Department of Transplantology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus Rummo O.O. and Doctor of Medical Sciences Shcherba A.E.
The staff of the department is constantly working on the development and implementation of the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment of their patients. The doctors of the department have been trained abroad in clinics in Germany, Belgium and England, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Russia, Israel.
The employees of the department actively cooperate with the specialists of the Department of Transplantology of the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, the Department of Hepatology and Minimally Invasive Surgery and the Department of Transplantation of the International Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology.
The staff of the department is characterized by tact, punctuality, taking care of each patient.
The department performs planned surgical interventions:
Laparoscopic surgery
- GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease)
- Laparoscopic resection of the stomach in diseases and tumors of the stomach.
- Laparoscopic bowel resection for diseases and tumors of the small and large intestine.
With hernias of the anterior abdominal wall
- Laparoscopic plastic surgery for inguinal hernia using modern endoscopic equipment:
- Transabdominal preperitoneal hernioplasty (TAP)
- Total endoscopic preperitoneal hernioplasty (TEP)
- Hernia repair using synthetic materials (polypropylene mesh, anti-adhesive prostheses), including recurrent hernias
For diseases of the gallbladder and bile ducts:
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, including using a single access system and a single incision technique (singleliort, singleincision), which allows you to remove the gallbladder through one mini-incision)
- Reconstructive operations on the biliary tract
- Percutaneous drainage of the bile ducts under ultrasound
